A game about running a small shop in New York

Set the menu, make rent, and decide who you make time for.

What you actually do

The shop, the people,
and what’s left of your day

The shop floor mid-service: orders on the rail, staff at their stations, customers waiting

Open the shop

Set the menu and the prices, order supplies, decide who works which station. Then the doors open and the day runs on its own clock, with rent waiting at the end of the week.

The end-of-day choice: stay and research, go home to sleep, or go for a walk

Then decide your night

Stay late and work out a new dish, go home and sleep, or walk the block while the flea market is still open. Every evening costs something: energy, money, or a night not spent on the shop.

A dive bar at night, and a stranger at the bar starting a conversation

The neighbourhood talks back

People have their own lives and their own places. Sit at the wrong end of the bar and someone tells you why. Regulars come back, and what they ask of you can change what the shop becomes.

A rented room in Bushwick, furnished with things brought home

Home is a rented room

Two roommates, about fifty minutes from the shop on the J. The room starts bare. Only the things that are truly yours end up here.

Real New York shops

Real shops,
on the block

We're bringing a few real New York storefronts into Open Daily — and pointing you to the real thing. Four are in so far: a comics shop in Williamsburg, a donut shop in Greenpoint, a chess shop in Greenwich Village and a creative studio in SoHo, each drawn with the shop's blessing.
